Day 6: NDLEA Yet To Find Drugs On Baba Suwe
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency through the Head, Public Affairs, Ofoyeju Mitchell has released an official statement explaining the continued detention of actor Omidina Babatunde also known as Baba Suwe who was last week arrested by officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN and NDLEA for allegedly being in possession of controlled substances believed to be Cocaine.
The agency says the now scandalized actor is in safe custody and that the process of placing suspected persons under observation was the agency’s usual practice.
Insisting that the agency never announced that Omidina was arrested for cocaine possesion, Ofoyeju explains that they detained the actor and placed him under observation as he allegedly ‘tested positive to drug ingestion’.
‘There is reasonable ground for suspicion and the actor is currently under observation. He is fine and has gone for the first excretion but no drug had been found on him. We have in the past recovered drugs after the fourth excretion. It is just the normal process for all passengers’, Hamza Umar, NDLEA Airport commander disclosed.
On Wednesday, October 12, 2011 Baba Suwe was taken into custody by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after being suspected of having hard drugs in his possession.
Baba Suwe was allegedly nabbed while attempting to depart Lagos for Paris on a 10pm scheduled Air France flight AF3051.
As at the time of this report, we’re told Baba Suwe has excreted three times since his detention but no drug has so far been found on him.
